Kurt Enenkel led an eventful life in the true sense of the word. “I could tell you whole books,” he reveals to the “Krone” on his milestone birthday.
But the Ottakringer is modest. How did he celebrate his 100th birthday? “It was actually a real party marathon. I celebrated with the church, with district leader Franz Prokop, who gave me a gift and a letter from the mayor, and of course with the family,” said Enenkel. What did he want for his birthday? Grandson laughing: “Please leave me here come through safely!”
But the Hernals native (“I moved to Ottakring when I was four years old”) has shown perseverance before. Enenkel is the oldest living participant in the Tour of Austria. “I competed three times, from 1950 to 1952 – I was invited as an amateur to race with the pros.”
Enenkel even had to run the stage to Lienz after a technical defect. Today he takes a step back, but “cycling has always kept me fit”. In any case, we wish you “all the best”!
