The German arms group Rheinmetall wants to build a factory for Panther main battle tanks in the Ukraine to support the Ukraine with modern war equipment against the Russian invaders. Former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev threatened the company because of this – the speaker of the Ukrainian parliament countered.
“The management of the German concern Rheinmetall confirmed the intention to build a tank production plant in Ukraine. Send the exact coordinates of the future work. Thank you!” Medvedev wrote on Twitter on Saturday – even in German. In plain language: Russia threatens to raz the factory to the ground once it is built.
threat of cruise missiles
Putin’s confidant had already threatened to attack the Rheinmetall factory with cruise missiles in March. With sharp rhetoric, the ex-president, now deputy head of the National Security Council in Russia, regularly tries to profile himself as a hardliner and to take advantage of this in the political power struggle.
This time, however, Ruslan Stefanchuk, speaker of the Ukrainian parliament, replied: “Why do you need the coordinates of the company? We don’t hire alcoholics,” he replied to Medvedev’s tweet (see above). It is still unclear whether the tank factory will actually be built, it was recently said that talks were still underway.
Kremlin scoffed
The contempt also came from elsewhere. One user wrote: “Here are the coordinates of Ukraine’s largest arms supplier” and linked the location of the Moscow Kremlin.
