“Head & Arm in the Stomach” – New gruesome details after deadly shark attack

Date:

The Egyptian Red Sea resort of Hurghada is still in shock after a deadly shark attack on a young Russian on Thursday. A lifeguard and a fisherman now revealed new gruesome details about the tragic event.

“I saw that the people on the jetty suddenly jumped up and looked towards the water. When something like this happens, you immediately recognize that something must have happened,” Mohammed H. recalls to the newspaper “Bild”.

“Water Was Full of Blood”
He paddled in a lifeboat towards the Russians. But by then it was already too late. “When I got to the man, the water was covered in blood. Then I saw that he had no arm left. Corrosive body parts were floating everywhere. I knew he couldn’t be saved.” Since the incident, he was traumatized and unable to sleep.

“The shark literally ate the man”
Fifteen fishermen then began catching the shark with a net. They claim to have drugged him well beforehand. When the fishermen later cut the animal open, the next shock awaited them. The Russian’s head and arm were in the stomach. “At first we were sure that it must be a heavily pregnant woman because the belly of the animal was so enormous. But there was no offspring in the stomach, the shark literally ate the man,” Fischer Hamdi C. told the shocked “image”.

After the shark was killed and cut open, it was taken to a marine biology institute in Hurghada, where it will be studied for the next few days. The 75-kilometer stretch of beach must be released again on Sunday.

According to Russian media, the dead man is a Russian citizen born in 1999. “The victim was not a tourist, but had permanent residence in Egypt,” Consul General Viktor Voropayev told the Russian news agency TASS.

The Red Sea is a popular tourist destination in Egypt. Although sharks are plentiful, attacks on humans in the bathing areas are relatively rare. Last July, an Austrian and a Romanian woman were killed in a shark attack off the coast of Hurghada. A Czech tourist died in a shark attack in 2018, a German in 2015 and a German in 2010.
