Kiev’s counter-offensive – fear of encirclement: Russians give up the place

Date:

The Ukrainian counter-offensive should have an effect. Russian military bloggers near the Kremlin reported on Sunday that the village of Blahodatne in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk region had been abandoned by Putin’s forces. The fighters of Moscow feared an encirclement there. Meanwhile, according to Kiev, three people were killed in a Russian attack on a lifeboat in the flooded areas.

According to military information from Kiev, Ukrainian soldiers have taken several places in the Donetsk region, which is largely occupied by Russia.

Raised Ukrainian flag
The troops released a video on Sunday (see tweet below) showing the Ukrainian flag being hoisted over a half-destroyed building in Blahodatne (43 km from Dnetsk).

“First results of recent counter-attacks”
Prisoners were also taken, it said. A spokesman for the Ukrainian army said on television that the recapture of the village was the first local result of the recent counter-attacks. It is the first time since these counter-attacks in recent days that the liberation of a location has been announced.

Ukraine has kept a low profile on the status of the long-awaited large-scale counter-offensive. Russia has said at least twice in the past week that it has repelled Ukrainian attacks near the village of Welyka Novosilka, near Blahodatne.

Three killed in Russian attack on Ukrainian lifeboat
Ukraine says three people have been killed in a Russian attack on a lifeboat in the flooded areas. Ten other people were injured, Kherson Oblast governor Olexander Prokudin said on Telegram. The boat wanted to take people from flooded parts of the occupation zones to the Ukrainian-controlled city of Kherson.

Among the dead was a 74-year-old man who was trying to protect a woman and was hit in the back. Prokudin’s report did not reveal how Russian forces attacked the boat. Russia denies allegations of attacks against civilians. Russia and Ukraine have accused each other of shelling evacuation areas.

After dam destruction: search for missing persons continues
After the destruction of the Kakhovka dam in the war zone of southern Ukraine in the Kherson region, the search for missing persons continued on Sunday. Authorities had announced the night before that 29 people were missing.

Kiev claims in video: Russians blew up dam to stop advance

After the dam broke, 1,400 emergency services were involved in remedying the consequences of the flood. The evacuation of villages also continued on the Russian-occupied side of the bank. Thousands of people were evacuated to safety on both sides of the river in the disputed area.

“Counteroffensive and Defensive Actions”
Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin said on Friday that Ukraine’s offensive had already begun. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said his country is using “counter-offensives” on the front lines against Russian forces. “Counter-offensive and defensive actions” took place, but he would not give “details”, Zelensky said in Kiev on Saturday.

Moscow and Kiev Ukraine exchanged prisoners of war
The Ministry of Defense in Moscow also announced on Telegram that 94 Russians had been released from Ukrainian captivity after negotiations and taken to a medical facility for examination. A government official in Kiev said 95 Ukrainian soldiers had returned. Some of them are injured. The returned soldiers were deployed at Mariupol, Chernobyl, on Snake Island in the Black Sea and in Bakhmut, which recently fell to Russia.
