Just before Silvio Berlusconi was taken to San Raffaele Hospital in Milan, where he died Monday, Berlusconi stopped at a restaurant he was nostalgic for. It was a farewell that resulted in one last photo.
The former prime minister of Italy arrived last Friday afternoon with his partner Marta Fascina and bodyguards at the Maximilian Bistrot, just a few minutes’ walk from the hospital where he was admitted for his leukaemia.
“They sat down at a table, ordered an orange popsicle for him and a coffee for his companion,” “Italy24” quotes Omar Calvetti, the restaurant manager, as saying. Berlusconi stayed for about an hour and posed for photos with students from the nearby University of San Raffaele.
“Wanna Say Goodbye”
“We exchanged a few words,” Calvetti said, “and he said, ‘Milano Due is always fun.’ He seemed relaxed and smiling.’ Milano Due (Milan 2) was one of the first major real estate projects that Berlusconi built with the Edilnord Group in the 1970s. At the Maximilian Bistrot, which is itself located in this district, a monument commemorates the building. with this stay wanted to say goodbye to Milano Due, his creation,” said Calvetti.
The “Cavaliere”, as Berlusconi was also called, visited the bistro more often, according to the director. On Friday, the owner Massimiliano Albanese sat down and had a chat with him. “My seven-year-old son was there and he hugged him. They took a picture together,” Albanese recalls, according to Italy24.
Only hours after Berlusconi ate his orange ice cream, he went to San Raffaele Hospital for an examination of his chronic leukemia, where his condition continued to deteriorate. He passed away on Monday around 9:30 am at the age of 86.
