Advisor Idoia Mendia has stressed that the gender pay gap remains at a “very worrying” 17.9%, meaning that men earn an average of €6,000 more per year than women.
The gender pay gap in the Basque Autonomous Community (CAV) has narrowed by five points since the start of the current legislature in 2020, but is still 17.9%. This means that men earn an average of 6,000 euros more per year that the women.
Vicelehendakari and Minister of Labor and Employment of the Basque Government, Idoia Mendiadisseminated these data during the inauguration this Wednesday of the II International Congress on the Pay Gap, organized by its department and by the Organization of Ibero-American States (OEI).
In his speech, Mendia stressed that the wage gap remains at a level “very worrying” 17.9%. He has affirmed that this gap is measured by economic capacity, but also by “social conditions”, and has emphasized the commitment to care, which he has defined as an “immense challenge, which can perpetuate this situation”.
