Minister thanks – Austria consumes much less gas in the autumn

Date:

Gas consumption in Austria fell sharply between August and November. Depending on the month, the savings varied from 8.3 to 25.4 percent compared to the average consumption over the past five years. The EU is calling for savings of 15 percent from August 2022 to March 2023. “The results show that our joint efforts are paying off,” said Climate Minister Leonore Gewessler (Greens).

The demand for gas is determined, among other things, by temperature fluctuations and the associated heat demand, energy prices and the savings efforts of energy consumers, the Ministry of Climate Change reminds.

“I want to thank everyone who has helped in this joint effort. Every contribution counts, whether it is the large consumers in the economy or private households that heat one or two degrees less,” says Gewessler.

Save up to 25 percent per month
Gas consumption in August 2022 was 3.2 terawatt hours (TWh) (-1.1 TWh or -25.4 percent), in September 4.92 TWh (-8.3 percent) and in October 5.87 TWh (-24 .7 percent). According to provisional figures, gas consumption in November was 10.32 TWh (-16.5 percent). The data for the months of August, September and October come from E-Control, the provisional data for November come from AGGM.
