Teacher as murderer? – Shots killed in an idyll: “No one lives here anymore”

Date:

Only a small dog survived the massacre: three bodies were found in a secluded house in the idyllic St. Peter am Kammersberg and a 47-year-old teacher is suspected of murder.

The Murau vocational school is in mourning. A black flag has been hoisted at the front gate, waving in the June wind that drives scattered raindrops before it. If you ask around, it quickly becomes clear: here it is beyond anyone’s imagination that he, the popular colleague, the teacher, described by students as sociable, could be a murderer.

And yet, it goes without saying, it should be. Three bodies were found in an idyllic spot on the mountain on Tuesday evening in the home of the teacher, who was also a hunter. That of his much older wife (65), that of a German (62) and that of himself.

According to the initial results of the investigation, the police assume double homicide and suicide – assuming that the 47-year-old shot the two women with a gun on the ground floor and then targeted the lower part of the house. Only the dog, the couple’s beloved Mowgli, was spared. He’s in an animal shelter.

German worked in a hotel
The motive for the horrible bloody deed? Why was the second woman in the house? There are hardly any facts, many questions – rumors too. That the younger victim, who had worked in a hotel in Germany, was the lover of the Styrian and had visited him for the first time in Styria. That the long-term couple broke up and there were disputes.

The alleged perpetrator led a retired life
In any case, the community of 2,000 inhabitants is in shock: “We are all very affected,” says Mayor Herbert Göglburger. Who knew the suspect (the presumption of innocence applies), “but not well. He only came to live here in 2020, did not participate in community life, lived a withdrawn life.” crime.

Adopted daughter did not live in murder house
A very well maintained property, on the mountain away from it all. “It should have been my retirement home,” says landlord Herbert Tockner, who chose the teacher and his wife out of 15 applicants at the time. “But now I’ve lost all the fun in it.” He knew the couple himself, “the two always seemed very harmonious. There was also an adopted daughter who didn’t live here.”

The postman comes by, wants to deliver a package. “Please take it back with you,” says Herbert Tockner. “No one lives here anymore.”

A crime in an ideal world
The campsite is a short distance away and especially holidaymakers from the Netherlands will get their money’s worth here in St. Peter am Kammersberg. “A crime? Here?” says someone in amazement.Yes, here, in the country where the world still seems so whole.
