Incredible treatment errors – partly due to staff shortages in Vienna’s hospitals – are revealed in the annual report of the Vienna Nursing and Patient Advocacy (WPPA). In addition to general quality defects, such as long waiting times for operations, several individual cases, such as the death of a patient during dialysis, cause a real shock.
The predominant health problem in the past year has been the lack of staff in the hospitals. Patient advocacy received many complaints about long waiting times for surgeries or multiple postponements of surgeries, as well as complaints about a lack of patient supervision. The WPPA was contacted a total of 972 times about incidents in Vienna’s hospitals.
