In Traun in Upper Austria, three youths are being sought who inflicted a serious head injury on a 69-year-old pensioner. The man was suddenly attacked by them on his way home from shopping.
The victim is still shocked a few days after the brutal attacks. The 69-year-old cannot understand why he was the target of the three young men on a bus in Traun.
Shopping cart torn away
“My father did his weekly shopping on Friday at the farmers’ market on the central square and then took the city bus to Tannhubstrasse,” says daughter Sarah W. (23). An approximately 18-year-old boy approached him, said “Salam” and asked him if he was Kurdish. When the two-year-old grandpa didn’t respond, he tried to snatch his shopping cart away. “Daddy didn’t let go and wanted to defend himself.”
Dragged from the bus
When the door of the bus opened at the Erlenweg stop, one of the young man’s comrades tore off the pensioner’s leg, causing him to lose his balance. Together with a third, he brutally dragged the 69-year-old off the bus, the victim banging his head hard against the bus steps and the asphalt. “He was bleeding profusely. A passerby and the bus driver came to the rescue and alerted emergency services and police,” said Sarah W.
Stitched head wounds
Three deep head wounds had to be sutured at Kepler University Hospital in Linz. “The staff said that his guardian angel prevented a cerebral hemorrhage.” Police are looking for the trio. One must be Arab, the other two Eastern Europeans, they wore sweatpants and caps.
