A page drawn and signed by Uderzo from the comic “Asterix in Spain” has found a new owner for the price of a luxury car. The magazine with the original drawings was auctioned for no less than 166,750 euros.
The auction was organized on Wednesday by auction house Daniel Maghen in Paris. The page shows one of the famous beating scenes between the two Gauls Asterix and Obelix and a group of Romans (see below). The 1969 part is about the kidnapping of the proud little Spaniard Pepe, the son of Costa y Brava.
Given away by Uderzo
Uderzo gave the drawing to a journalist for his birthday and added a greeting. The value was initially estimated at 130,000 to 150,000 euros.
That was not a record, by the way: the highest value for an Uderzo drawing is even higher at 1.4 million euros. It was the colored title page of the album “Tour de France”, which was auctioned for this amount in 2017.
New “Asterix” in October
On October 26 this year a new “Asterix” with the title “The White Iris” will appear. It was drawn by Uderzo’s successor Didier Conrad and texted by Fabrice Caro. The focus this time is Majestix, the chief of the Gauls, who finds himself in a deep crisis. It is the 40th part in the series about the invincible Gauls.
