A ski tour to the Dreiländerspitze in Tyrol’s Silvretta Group ended Friday in hospital for a 51-year-old ski tourer. The local fell and broke his lower leg. The seriously injured man had to be rescued by helicopter.
As part of a group of five, the 51-year-old resident went on a ski tour to the Dreiländerspitze in the Silvretta. The group started in the morning in Gaschurn on the Bielerhöhe and went through the Ochsental towards the Vermunt glacier.
“Due to the rising fog and the associated poor visibility, the group decided to return to the northwestern slope of the Dreiländerspitze,” the police said.
Driving errors with fatal consequences
Then it happened at the foot of the slope: due to a driving error, the 51-year-old suddenly fell – the man broke his right lower leg.
Helicopter to hospital
After first aid at the scene of the accident, the seriously injured winter sports enthusiast was rescued by the emergency helicopter and then flown to the hospital in Zams.
