To save money on a taxi and get a 50-kilometre ride for free, a drunken Australian stuffed himself into the undercarriage of a truck. What he didn’t know was that the truck was headed to another state without stopping.
Ultimately, the man had to travel about 400 kilometers in a precarious position on the metal frame – hanging just half a meter above the road.
Instead of Coffs Harbour, half an hour away, the drunk ended up on Queensland’s Gold Coast. The 43-year-old later stated that he had hoped to jump off the frame at a red light on the Pacific Highway. However, the truck driver caught a green wave, allowing him to drive straight into Queensland without any traffic lights.
First stop after four o’clock
It wasn’t until four hours later that he stopped his truck for the first time and watched in amazement as his passenger stepped out of the undercarriage. The officers who were called were stunned to learn that the man had traveled the entire distance in the chassis, it was said. He explained that he was quite stressed after the long and uncomfortable journey.
Return journey by train
For his action he must pay a fine of approximately 170 euros. “Police then took the man to Coomera train station for the long journey back south,” police said.
