The brutal knife attack on an officer on Friday in Vienna-Favoriten still shocked the next day. Now the “Krone” has gotten footage of the scene – the video (above) is not for the faint of heart.
The suspected perpetrator suddenly appears behind an officer who is performing an official act. Suddenly the dark-haired man – according to information from the “Krone” a 41-year-old Jordanian – lashes out and stabs with full force.
The young police officer survived the attack with minor injuries. However, as the recordings suggest, he was incredibly lucky: the attacker appears to have targeted the officer’s neck. He missed by a few centimeters and the knife bounced off the stab-proof vest.
The 24-year-old police officer reacted quickly and immediately ran away from the aggressor. He was then struck by an electric shock, reports krone.at.
Another video shows how the suspect is overpowered:
“He didn’t care if the police officer died.”
As is now known, the Jordaan probably wanted to commit ‘suicide by cop’, i.e. allow himself to be killed by the police – at least that is what he stated in his first interrogation. He has private problems. “He didn’t care if the police officer died,” said Markus Dittrich, spokesman for the Vienna police. The suspect is now under investigation for attempted murder.
The case marks a new low in the Favorit hotspot and causes deep shock, and not only in police circles. “My thanks go to all the police officers who were involved in this life-threatening operation and carried it out successfully in a professional manner. “I wish the injured worker a speedy recovery,” Interior Minister Gerhard Karner also told the “Krone”.
The reason for the identity check at Keplerplatz was that police officers had previously had glass bottles thrown at them. A few weeks ago, a weapons ban zone was established in the area.
