A surprising number of people are currently quitting their jobs to become teachers and fill the staff shortages there. Michael Schellnegger is one of them, says his director: “It wouldn’t work without him.”
Michael Schellnegger used to work on electric motors, today he explains their structure to fourth graders at Fehring Middle School in Styria. After his secondary education and a job in marketing, de Weizer especially enjoyed workshops with young people, and his circle of friends made the teaching profession attractive to him.
“I applied here and have been teaching physics, engineering, basic digital training and communication since March 2022.” He does not see any disadvantages for the children, but rather advantages: “They benefit from my experience.”
