An 83-year-old from Wels drove on the Innkreis Autobahn on Friday. The special thing about it: the elderly gentleman was not in the car, but on his electric wheelchair.
Sometimes you see a lot on the road, but this photo is special: Friday afternoon a wheelchair user mingled with the vehicles on the Innkreis Autobahn.

The 83-year-old from Wels was on the A8 towards Voralpenkreuz around 1.30 pm. Other motorists noticed the unusual road user and called the police.
The officials then found the wheelchair user in the Noitzmühle tunnel and were able to arrest him there. The motorway tunnel was closed for about 20 minutes due to the danger to traffic flow. Meanwhile, the emergency services have accompanied the 83-year-old home.
Not a violation, but an administrative fine
The man must have been confused and lost track – and suddenly ended up on the highway.
Fortunately, the dangerous incident ended well: neither the 83-year-old Welser nor other drivers were injured during the “excursion”. The wheelchair driver is now threatened with an administrative fine for unauthorized driving on the highway.
