This year, the annual Vienna Danube Island Festival celebrates its 40th anniversary. Also this year there are a number of rules of conduct that should ensure a peaceful festival. This time around, there are also some strange prohibitions that can provide some excitement, especially for families.
Europe’s largest open-air festival with free admission starts this Friday. This year, the Danube Fest convinces above all with a wide variety of programs and a colorful world full of fun and action.
Strict personal control
The main entrances can be reached again from the underground stations Handelskai (U6) and Donauinsel (U1). But just before you arrive at the festival site, a thorough identity check awaits you, which will probably be stricter this year than in previous years.

Own food prohibited
Objects such as weapons of any kind, as well as all substances, pyrotechnics, cans and glass bottles are logically still strictly prohibited. But large backpacks and bags, picnic blankets, own food and non-alcoholic drinks should also be absolutely taboo.
Higher prices
For an extended family planning a day trip to the festival this coming weekend, this can be a major challenge. The prices of the drinks and food sold there will probably be more expensive than in recent years due to inflation.

Rain ponchos only while supplies last
Even when it rains, there can be a nasty surprise for one or the other visitor. Because again this year free rain ponchos will be handed out, but only while supplies last. If you’re late, you don’t get anything. Until now, however, visitors have been lucky with the weather. Weather experts speak of sunny and only slightly cloudy weather throughout the festival.
