“It was sunshine” – run over car: mourn Jeanette (19)

Date:

The Flachgau community of Mattsee (Salzburg) is stunned after the tragic accidental death of 19-year-old Jeanette. After a party, the young waitress from Mattsee was hit by a BMW X3. She then ran over another car, according to witnesses. Any help came too late for Jeanette. The driver of the first car turned himself in a few hours after the incident. So far there is no trace of the previously unknown second. Particularly tragic: Jeanette would have turned 20 today.

“We are all stunned. Because such a young life has ended and such a sweet and kind-hearted person is no longer with us,” said Mattsee mayor Michael Schwarzmayr. The accidental death of 19-year-old Jeanette — she would have turned 20 today — also overshadowed the big 70th founding celebration of rural youth. On Friday after work, the cheerful waitress herself was with her colleagues at the country youth party. Saturday there was a moment of mourning for her.

Because after Jeanette had left the festival on foot, she was hit by a car on the edge of the L 101 around 0.45 am. After the collision, the driver continued driving at the northern entrance of the city. Other drivers called an ambulance. A first responder attempted to resuscitate Jeanette. But neither he nor the paramedics could save her.

The accident car was quickly identified, the driver turned himself in
That evening an expert came by. Remnants of a wing mirror were left behind at the scene of the accident. In the morning it was clear: we were looking for a silver BMW X3. Shortly after the manhunt was called, the suspected driver of the death turned himself in to Obertrum police. The 24-year-old from Upper Austria appeared for questioning with his father and lawyer.

A breath test showed 0.0 per thousand. As he left the waiting room, the young man held a sweater in front of his face. Attorney Carl Handlechner is by no means certain that his client is responsible for the young woman’s death. He did not notice the collision and only heard a noise. “He thought he caught a bird with the mirror,” says Handchner. The young woman is said to have “hit the car”.

Where is the driver of the second accident?
According to information from “Krone”, the detectives are not only focusing on the 24-year-old. Because a witness in the opposite lane says he saw another car roll over Jeanette lying on the ground shortly after the collision. This steering wheel would also have been blown away. The serious injuries and the location of the tracks support the conclusion. An autopsy should clarify. Expert Gerhard Kronreif examined the BMW, which appears to be intact except for the mirror and side window.

Relatives spoke movingly
A family member spoke on Facebook and thanked them for their great compassion and willingness to help. “Jeanette was sunshine,” she underlined her grief. At the same time, she asked not to demonize the driver: “Because he too is someone’s child and he and his family must also live with what happened. That is punishment enough.”
