A 49-year-old fisherman and his 14-year-old son rescued a 52-year-old man from Lake Constance early Saturday morning, saving him from the worst. The 52-year-old fisherman had capsized his boat and clung only with his hands to the hull sticking out of the water.
The 52-year-old says he was with his boat on the lake at the Rijndam around 05:30 when the accident happened. In the dark he drove over an unknown obstacle. As a result, his boat suffered massive damage to the propulsion and hull, and he lost his ability to swim. It started to sink.
Bleeding head wound
When the 49-year-old discovered the man was bleeding from the head, he clung to the hull of the boat, which was still sticking out of the water. Father and son hoisted the victim onto their boat and brought him ashore. The rescue team received him there and delivered him to the LKH Bregenz.
Firefighters salvaged the boat
Meanwhile, another fisherman secured the sinking ship until the rescue service and the fire brigade arrived at the scene of the accident. Then they salvaged the boat. The fire brigade and the water rescue service were deployed with the service boats Föhn and V-9, as well as the police and the water police.
