The nationalist politician Why Yousaf took office as the new Prime Minister of Scotland this Wednesday, completing the renewal process of a government that must reinvent itself after the unexpected resignation of the previous leader, Nicholas Steur.
Yousaf, who was named leader of the Scottish National Party (SNP) this week and confirmed by the Scottish Parliament as Sturgeon’s successor, has completed the paperwork with a short ceremony in which he read a text and swore allegiance to the king, Carlos III.
The new minister is yet to come form his cabinet, although he already announced Shona Robison as “number two” on Tuesday. He also made that clear among his political objectives will work tirelessly to defend Scotland’s independence, a front in which it clashes head-on with London.
Yousaf, 37, is Scotland’s sixth Prime Minister.
