The Basque government hopes to activate the regional PERTE “quickly” and ensures that the clauses of the subsidy procedures must be “reconsidered” in order to “avoid superfluous requirements, make deadlines as flexible as possible and minimize procedures as much as possible”.
The Basque Country has so far received a total of EUR 1,657 million from European recovery funds, of which 1,048 (63.2%) are managed by the Basque government and another 609 (36.8%) directly by the state administration.
The Minister of Economy and Finance of the Basque Government, Pedro Azpiazu, this Monday provided the details of the arrival of these funds in his quarterly appearance before parliament to provide information on the progress of this process.
In particular, Azpiazu has cited the need to “quickly activate” the so-called Regional Strategic Projects, known as regional PERTE, as a matter of “pragmatism”.
In this regard, he stated that the Basque government receives “repeated messages” from companies and social partners claiming to “streamline the bureaucracy” of administrative processes to access funds.
He has said the clauses of the grant procedures should be “reconsidered” to “avoid redundant requirements, make deadlines as flexible as possible and minimize procedures as much as possible”.
On the other hand, the director has acknowledged that the funds under direct management seem to be reaching their maximum and growth is already “marginal”.
