Fake speeding ticket – has burnout turned cops into criminals?

Date:

A 55-year-old from the district of Wiener Neustadt (Lower Austria) is said to have handed out manipulated fines and diverted 100,000 euros. The man was subsequently suspended two months ago and the investigation is ongoing. According to defender Manfred Arbacher-Stöger, the damage amount should be much lower.

Only at the weekend did the cause of the manipulated fines of a police officer from the Wiener Neustadt district cause a stir. A 55-year-old would have taken the traffic rules very seriously and diligently handed out speeding tickets and demanded excessive payments, but failed to pass them on.

According to the courier, the “ticket king” managed to channel more than 100,000 euros in this way. The police officer would have been suspended two months ago.

It is the presumption of innocence
“The total is not even remotely correct,” defender Manfred Arbacher-Stöger replies to the “Krone”. “We move more in the three-digit euro zone,” the lawyer refers to a much lower amount of damage. With thousands and thousands of organ mandates, he also pinpoints a problem of “verifiability”.

investigations are underway
His client suffers from burnout syndrome. The investigation into abuse of office against the 55-year-old is still ongoing. Now it’s time for law enforcement to wrap up warm: the police punish violations as the worst breach of duty there is.
