When activists began their protest on Vienna’s ring road, a stressed driver lost his nerve in January. In his trial, he tries to convey his point of view to the members of the last generation who have been called as witnesses. The 40-year-old transport entrepreneur bites his teeth into granite. And is convicted for his freak out.
The fronts are hardened. Even though the defendant tries to approach his victim in court: “It went badly. I was stressed. I get that with the climate and everything. But is that any use? Blocking people who drive to work? In that sense, I will I apologize,” Mr. B. (40) addressed the activist called as a witness – whom he brutally wanted to throw off the road on the Vienna Belt near the Westbahnhof before he could even stab himself.
The climate sticker pays no attention to the driver. “That creates even more traffic jams and even more exhaust fumes,” emphasizes the family man.
Activist: ‘He screamed and pulled me away’
“How was that on January 11?” Mr. Rat wants to know about the member of the last generation who was not injured. “We held our meeting on the street. Then he came over to us, yelled and pulled me away from the hood. He pushed my colleague, kicked me twice in the hip.”
Video of the freak out as an internet hit
The video of the freak, for which Mr. B. must now answer, was viewed 700,000 times on Twitter. The carrier, on his way to a promising rendezvous, jumped out of the car and attacked one of the protesters: “I told him to slip away. But he always came back to the street. I shouldn’t have done that.”
Judge: “You are not the police”
Judge Christoph Kraushofer sees it that way too. He sentenced the anger leader to three months in prison for coercion and disrupting a meeting and issued anti-aggression training instructions: “Only the police are allowed to carry away, and you are not the police.”
