Thanks to the quick reaction of the passerby and the efforts of the animal rescue service, the injured cormorant was rescued and handed over to the animal paradise in Schabenreith, where he received urgently needed medical care from a veterinarian. The animal was in great pain. The cormorant remains in the Schabenreith animal paradise and is already on the mend.
The cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo) is a water bird and is protected by the Austrian Nature Conservation Act and the European Union Birds Directive.
