An eight-year-old boy has died in Pakistan after he was allegedly raped by his religion teacher. According to the police, the teacher raped the boy in his sleep in early June. When he resisted, the priest allegedly used extra force.
He then threw the eight-year-old off the roof of the school to cover up his crime, police said. The child suffered serious injuries and was in a coma until his death on Tuesday. The alleged perpetrator has been arrested and has already confessed to the crime. A DNA test follows.
Islamabad police say the religious teacher raped the boy in his sleep in early June. However, according to the Pakistani children’s rights organization Sahil, perpetrators often go unpunished. “The number of incidents of child sexual abuse has increased in recent times,” says a Sahil spokesperson.
Children between the ages of six and 15, especially boys, are at particular risk. In 2022, more than 4,000 cases of child abuse and more than 80 rape-related homicides were reported, according to the organization.
