In a steep and inaccessible area below the Roggelskopf in Dalaas (Vorarlberg), a fire broke out in a piece of forest and meadow on Wednesday night. The fire appears to be under control at the moment. It is extinguished from two helicopters.
At around 11 p.m., passers-by reported to the rescue and fire control center (RFL) Vorarlberg that they had seen smoke and fire under the Roggelskopf. When firefighters took a photo of themselves on a helicopter reconnaissance flight, they could see a bushfire starting in an exposed and steeply sloping area, RFL operations manager Dietmar Pfanner told the “Krone”.
Removed since early morning
In the dark, however, there was no possibility for the Floriani youth to extinguish the fire. So everything was prepared for the next morning. Since the early hours of the morning, two helicopters have been deployed to extinguish the fire. A total of seven fire brigades, mountain rescue teams and helicopter teams are currently involved in fighting the fire.
It is extinguished from the air
“The place of the fire is not accessible on foot,” reports Pfanner. There are two individual nests on Alpe Heuberg. He could not accurately estimate the size of the fire. “Because the ground is very dry, the flames can easily spread to a smoldering fire below the surface.”
The duration of the extinguishing operation cannot yet be estimated either, because it is highly dependent on the weather. A wind could rekindle the embers. “Work is in full swing. In principle, the fire is now under control’, reassures the operations manager of RFL.
