The search for the tourist submarine Titan enters its critical hours, with the crew’s oxygen supply depleted.
According to Ocean Gate Expeditions company, which operates the submarine and organizes tourist expeditions to the Titanic, the submarine departed with a 96-hour supply of oxygen that will run out around noon and 2 p.m. this Thursday.
The company OceanGate Expeditions reported to the authorities on Sunday the disappearance of the aircraft with five people on board, two hours after the start of the dive. The crew includes Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood, his son Suleman, British explorer Hamish Harding, French explorer Paul-Henry Nargeolet and OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush.
The U.S. Coast Guard began an extensive to look up in which troops and assets from the US, Canada, France and the UK participate, with planes, boats and underwater drones.
A Canadian aircraft detected underwater sounds in the search area yesterday, Wednesday, although “the origin of the sound is unknown for now”. It would be strokes at 30 minute intervals.
Experts estimate the submarine will run out of oxygen Thursday morning, though it’s not clear if it can be refloated once located.
