On Wednesday, a short but fierce storm front passed over the district of Liezen (Styria) in the late afternoon. The associated storm caused 35 fire brigade deployments in the Ennstal and Paltental.
In addition to fallen trees on traffic routes and vehicles, firefighters pumped out flooded basements and covered hail-damaged roofs with tarpaulins. Rubble information on the B 75 between Donnersbach and Donnersbachwald was also removed over a length of 200 metres.
A total of 19 fire brigades with 280 men were deployed. The “Florian Liezen” area warning center was on duty with a reinforced team to coordinate the many damage situations that mainly occurred in Schladming, Sölk, Ardning, Lassing, Rottenmann and Admont as well as Trieben and Gaishorn.
Fires also kept firefighters on their toes
To make matters worse, in addition to dealing with the storm operations, the emergency services also had to turn out to six alleged forest and meadow fires after alarm bells had reported a fire. However, these all turned out to be unannounced midsummer fires.
