Due to an accident in evening traffic, the Liefering tunnel on the A1 towards Germany was completely closed on Thursday. A car crashed into the tunnel wall, the two occupants were injured.
Around half past four, in the middle of rush hour, the accident happened in the Liefering tunnel on the A1. A 69-year-old Austrian left the road with his car, hit the tunnel wall several times and then crashed into the wall in front of the Salzburg-Mitte slip road.
The car was a total loss, but the driver was able to get out of the car himself. He and his 64-year-old Austrian passenger were attended to by several ambulances and taken to Salzburg University Hospital with unknown injuries.
The alcohol test was negative. The investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing. The accident forced the tunnel to be completely closed for nearly an hour. After that, only the third lane and the Salzburg-Mitte slip road were open to traffic.
