A heavily drunk Upper Austrian (47) lost control of his car on Thursday evening at the construction site on the A9 in Deutschfeistritz and crashed into a concrete barrier. The car was on its side across the road. The driver escaped with minor injuries.
Already in the Schartnerkogel tunnel near Deutschfeistritz (Graz area), witnesses noticed a car on Thursday evening that drove in striking wavy lines and repeatedly entered the oncoming lane.
Car sped off after collision
A little later, according to the police, there was an accident on the one-lane construction site near Deutschfeistritz. The 47-year-old driver from Upper Austria entered the oncoming lane, first hitting two markers and then the center concrete barrier. He literally took off with his car and crashed into the left side of the vehicle. The vehicle then skidded on the road for about 50 meters until it came to rest across the roadway.
With the help of witnesses to the accident, the driver was able to free himself from the car. The man was taken to Graz regional hospital with minor injuries and his car was a total loss. An alcohol test showed that he was heavily intoxicated.
