Wagner Rebellion – Zelenskyj: Russia’s weakness is obvious

Date:

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky sees the armed uprising of the mercenary group Wagner against Moscow as a sign of Russia’s weakness.

“Russia’s weakness is obvious. Weakness to the fullest,” writes Zelenskyj on the social media platforms Telegram and Twitter. “And the longer Russia keeps its troops and mercenaries in our country, the more chaos, pain and problems it will face later.”

“decisive within 48 hours”
Zelenskyy’s adviser Mykhailo Podoliak even said: “The next 48 hours will decide the new status of Russia. A “full-scale civil war”, a “negotiated transfer of power” or even a “temporary hiatus for the next stage of the downfall of Putin’s regime “are possible,” Podoljak wrote on Twitter on Saturday.

The situation in Ukraine is being closely monitored, said Kiev political scientist Volodymyr Fessenko. “If the Kremlin had to transfer some of its troops from Ukraine to Russia to neutralize the Wagner fighters, the Ukrainian army would have a chance for a successful offensive,” Fessenko said.

Call to protect citizens
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak called for the protection of civilians in the face of the escalation in Russia. All those involved should take their responsibility, Sunak told the British broadcaster BBC on Saturday. He announced that he would speak with other heads of state and government on Saturday about the private army’s uprising against the military leadership.

“We are closely monitoring the situation as it is currently developing on site. We are in contact with our allies.” Sunak dodged questions about whether it was good or bad news that Russian President Vladimir Putin was being challenged: “It’s an evolving situation.”
