A driver filmed a wolf on a pasture in Tweng in the Salzburger Lungau, right next to the national road Katschberg (B99). The Salzburg wolf officer confirmed the authenticity of the recordings to “Krone”.
The video with the Lungau wolf reached a number of Salzburg residents this weekend – thanks to courier services such as WhatsApp and Co. It shows a wolf in a meadow next to the Katschberg national road in the municipality of Tweng. The animal watches as the filming driver stops his vehicle. “And that next to the main road”, the man remarks when he is sighted.
The predator stares at the vehicle for several seconds, doesn’t seem particularly shy, then runs away. “This reaction is not unusual,” explains Hubert Stock, the state’s wolf commissioner – himself a sheep farmer from Werfen. “Animals that are not hunted are not particularly shy,” he adds in the “Krone” call. According to Stock, there’s no doubt it’s a wolf.
Stock also reports on the next suspicious case: this time in Scheffau in Tennengau. However, the crack pattern is not easy to recognize, a DNA analysis should bring clarity.
