The motorway exit ended fatally for a 59-year-old from Gmunden on Sunday morning: the driver crashed into the guardrail at the rest area in Straß im Attergau and then into a notice board. For the 59-year-old, all help came too late.
The woman from Gmund was driving on the Westautobahn towards Vienna at around 6:00 on Sunday. At the rest area in Straß im Attergau she decided to get off the A1. She crashed into the side of the left guardrail and then into a notice board.
The van overturned
The van was thrown into a field and against an embankment, rolled over and eventually came to a stop on its side on the driver’s side.
For the 59-year-old driver – she was the sole occupant of the vehicle – all help must have come too late; she died at the scene from her serious injuries.
Vehicle recovered
The fire brigades of St. Georgen im Attergau, Oberschwang and Innerschwand recovered the accident vehicle; a total of 36 Floriani were deployed.
