“Challenges” – Putin’s first video message after mercenary uprising

Date:

Two days after the coup attempt by the Wagner mercenary group, the Russian government is apparently trying to give the impression that the situation has been defused. While Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin called on the country to unite and support President Vladimir Putin, the Kremlin chief reported on Monday with a video message for the first time since the mercenary uprising.

In his first popular explanation after the uprising, the Wagner mercenaries left Putin not in what happened over the weekend. A statement by the head of state congratulating the participants of an industrial forum was published on the website of the President’s Office. These were mainly young scientists and technicians.

The president praised the “stable” work of Russian industry “in the face of serious external challenges”. “The development of Russian industry depends on the quality of its specialists,” Putin said. It is not clear where the recording came from. Of course, it could also have been recorded for the weekend.

Latest video from Minister of Defense?
There are also doubts about the authenticity of a video recording allegedly shown by Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu during a visit to the front in Ukraine. According to the state news agency RIA Novosti, the minister there listened to the report of Colonel General Yevgeny Nikiforov and met with commanders. However, some Russian military bloggers believe that this is not a recent photo.

Where is mercenary chief Prigozhin?
But there are not even such recordings of mercenary boss Yevgeny Prigozchin. He has disappeared without a trace since he left Rostov-on-Don and is said to be in Belarus.

A long-simmering power struggle between the regular army and the private mercenary group Wagner escalated in Russia over the weekend. Led by Prigozhin, the Wagner mercenaries occupied the southern Russian city of Rostov-on-Don on Saturday and threatened to march on Moscow. Surprisingly, on Saturday evening, Prigozhin put an end to the uprising again.
