“A happy day” – Ukraine moves on to occupied territory in 2014

Date:

Ukraine has been invading Russian-occupied territories since 2014. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy speaks of a “happy day”. His soldiers are advancing in “all directions”.

Ukrainian forces continue to advance. President Zelensky’s troops have advanced into areas occupied by Russia for nine years. This is according to a British intelligence report. Members of the Ukrainian Air Force, they said, were making small advances east of the village of Krasnohorivka near the city of Donetsk.

“Recent multiple and simultaneous Ukrainian attacks” in Donbass have overwhelmed the armed forces of the internationally unrecognized Donetsk People’s Republic and Chechen units operating there, the report said.

Zelenskyj: “It’s a lucky day”
According to Zelenskyy, the Ukrainian counter-offensive has succeeded. “Today our soldiers are advancing in all directions, it’s a lucky day,” he said in his daily video address on Monday night. He wishes the soldiers more days like this. For his speech, which he gave on a train, Zelenskyj had visited several front sections.

It was a busy and emotional day, said the president. He visited both the Bakhmut area and the south of the country in Zaporizhia and presented several awards, including two gold stars for Heroes of Ukraine – the country’s highest award.

Given the recent successes, Selenskyj was convinced of victory over the Russian occupiers. The Kiev leadership reported on Monday that another city in the Zaporizhia region had been recaptured. “Our whole Earth will be free – absolutely everything,” said the head of state.

Russians demolish buildings in Mariupol
However, the coastal city of Mariupol is still firmly in Russian hands. According to the exiled adviser to the city’s mayor, Petro Andryushchenko, the Russian occupiers have started demolishing houses in the completely destroyed coastal city. “Instead of housing and life, there are now only ruins,” he reports on Telegram.

“During the blockade, the attackers destroyed 50 percent of the city’s housing stock, more than 300 houses were completely demolished after the occupation” Many residents of Mariupol fought to save their homes because they continued to live there. “This is life in Mariupol – a constant battle for your home.”
