Last year, almost every Basque house spent 4000 euros in restaurants and hotels, which represented an increase of 32.9% compared to 2021, and also paid more for the energy bill due to higher spending on electricity (10.1%) and gas (23%). Spend this way housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels absorbs the 35% of the annual expenses of a Basque family, while the food and non-alcoholic drinks takes another fifteen %. In total, both concepts add up to half of the household budget (50.5%), a percentage slightly lower than the 52.5% of 2021.
1499 million purchases online
Internet expenditure increased by 4.2% in 2022 and amounted to 1,499 million euros. The percentage of households making online purchases rose to 41.3% and so did their average spending 3956 euros.
Online purchases represented the 4.6% of the total spending of Basque households, two tenths lower than the percentage of 2021. The largest spending on the internet was made in restaurants and hotels (25.3%), especially for booking accommodation.
