Summer without Corona – From Friday there is no longer an obligation to register for Covid-19

Date:

Now the pandemic is probably finally in the past: from Friday, Covid-19 is no longer a notifiable infectious disease. As a result, the reporting obligation lapses. The AGES dashboard will also be discontinued on Friday.

Since March 2020, the Ministry of Health has been providing information about the course of the corona pandemic through daily data publications. That is now discontinued. From July it is no longer known how many people will test positive for the corona virus and how many will end up in hospital or die after being infected.

Respiratory Disease Dashboard
Instead, the Ministry of Health wants to publish in the future how many people are being treated in hospitals for serious respiratory disease. However, the detailed work on it has not yet been completed. The purpose of the so-called SARI dashboard, according to the ministry, is to “provide an overview of the occupation of hospitals due to respiratory virus infections”.

However, the new dashboard should only show hospitalizations, not deaths from serious respiratory illnesses. Deaths are often the result of various factors and would therefore ‘probably’ not be published, according to the reasoning. In this context, the ministry also refers to the discussion that has taken place in the course of the corona pandemic as to whether those who died after an infection “died from or with Covid”. In addition, Statistics Austria provides an annual overview of the development of causes of death.

Infection rate very low
The – registered – corona infection rate is currently at a very low level. The seven-day incidence of infections in a week per 100,000 inhabitants is around or even below 10.

As of June 25, 6,080,914 infections with the coronavirus have been recorded across Austria since the start of the pandemic and 6,054,458 patients have been reported as recovered. Since the start of the pandemic, 22,534 people have died from or with Covid-19. A total of 136,726,909 PCR tests were delivered.
