Several people were injured in a fire in the generation home in Hainburg (Lower Austria) on Thursday afternoon. According to Andreas Zenker of the Red Cross in Lower Austria, nine people suffered from smoke inhalation. Four people were taken to hospital and five were treated on an outpatient basis.
According to the fire service, the flames came from a balcony. The cause was initially unclear. According to Zenker, two supervisors and a police officer were taken to hospital. The trio allegedly tried to extinguish the fire. One resident was also hospitalized.
Alternative housing for those affected
43 victims were taken to the Red Cross district office and temporarily housed there. However, alternative accommodation will be found for all people on Thursday, Zenker emphasises. For example, several residents of the fire object were picked up by relatives at the end of the afternoon.
The multi-generation home itself should no longer be available for the time being. Several rooms are badly damaged. According to the Hainburg Volunteer Fire Department, the flames came from a balcony on the first floor. Among other things, an external attack was carried out, about 70 helpers were deployed.
