In mid-June, a 66-year-old German man suddenly turned up posing as a detective and urgently wanted to speak to a 56-year-old homeowner in the Villach-Land district. It was about an alleged murder warrant.
The 66-year-old even carried a fake ID from the German Federal Criminal Investigation Department and told his counterpart a wild story. “The BKA would have intercepted an e-mail,” the police said. And the alleged content has it all: “An Arab client allegedly ordered a Russian criminal group to kill the 56-year-old’s family.”
Bitcoins worth 2.5 million euros
The wrong BKA official gave the reason for this kill order as a cryptocurrency deal in which the 56-year-old cheated the Arab. “The murder could have been averted by paying 60 bitcoins, which would have been worth about 2.5 million euros at the time,” the police said.
Fortunately, the homeowner immediately went to the police – they were able to track down the German suspect through extensive investigation. “Further investigation revealed where the German would be on June 28,” said the police. “For example, the EKO Cobra, with the cooperation of various police forces, was able to hit a hotel in Velden and arrest the 66-year-old.” The German, who is partially known, has been admitted to Klagenfurt prison.
