Search for Sherpa – Kenyan died on Mount Everest

Date:

This year’s highest Everest season has already claimed countless lives. The body of a Kenyan mountaineer was only discovered on Wednesday. They are still looking for his Nepalese mountain guide, as well as a Brit and another Sherpa.

A search team discovered the body of the 40-year-old Kenyan between the summit and the steep Hillary Step, a Nepal Tourism Authority spokesman said on Thursday. There is no trace of his local leader. The search team set out after contact with the two alpinists was lost on Wednesday morning. Meanwhile, teams continue to search for a Briton and his local mountain guide. The two have been missing since Tuesday after an icefall collapsed during their descent from the summit.

This year, Nepalese authorities have issued 419 permits to climb the world’s highest mountain, at 8,849 metres. At least two people died on Mount Everest in May, and the bodies of the two Mongolians were found last week.

Set several records
New world records have also been set recently: Nepal’s Kami Rita summited for the 30th time on Wednesday – more times than any other person before him, as a Nepalese official currently staying at the Everest base camp said.

In contrast, Nepalese mountain guide and rescuer Phunjo Jhangmu Lama climbed Mount Everest in just 14 hours and 31 minutes. She broke a previous women’s record on the world’s highest mountain, a Nepalese official said Thursday at the Everest base camp. Until now, Hong Kong’s Ada Tsang Yin-hung held the Guinness Book of Records entry for the fastest ascent of Everest by a female mountaineer from Nepal. Tsang spent 25 hours and 50 minutes on her climb three years ago.
