Deadly incident at the airport of the Moldovan capital Chisinau. Apparently, a passenger who was not allowed to enter the country after landing shot and killed two people. According to unconfirmed media reports, the man grabbed an officer’s gun during the check and then fired the fatal shot.
A border guard policeman and another person were killed according to preliminary information. In initially unconfirmed reports, there was also talk of a hostage taking. The airport building was evacuated. There were air traffic delays.
According to Moldovan media, the alleged perpetrator is a Russian national who landed on a plane from Turkey. Located between EU member Romania and Ukraine, the former Soviet Republic of Moldova is a popular travel destination for Russians and an important transport hub and transit point. Hundreds of Russian citizens land there every day, most of whom are taken aside at passport control and again individually asked about the reason for entry.
