Unreachable – Moscow blocks Prigozhin’s news channels

Date:

After the uprising of the Wagner mercenary group, Russia blocked several news portals of a media group associated with Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigozhin.

Numerous pages of the media company Patriot with current political and economic news were no longer accessible from Russia. Their web addresses also appeared in the “restricted access” directory of the Russian media regulator Roskomnadzor. Two other Patriot portals, Nevskiye Novosti and Ekonomika Segodja, have announced through online service Telegram that they intend to shut down their activities.

Prigozhin: They did not want to overthrow the leadership in Moscow
The Wagner group led by Prigozhin took control of several military bases in southern Russia last Friday and Saturday. Prigozhin announced a march on Moscow. After mediation by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Prigozhin finally broke off the uprising on Saturday night. Western observers saw the action as an uprising against the Kremlin.

However, the leader himself emphasized that he did not want to overthrow the leadership in Moscow, but to save his own squad. This was threatened by integration into the regular Russian army, he added. “We were going to protest,” the 62-year-old said in a voice message on Telegram a few days ago. Nevertheless, according to the official statement, the head of the military company had to go into exile in Belarus.

Also active in the gastronomy and media industry
In addition to his participation in the Wagner Group, Prigozhin was also active in the fields of media and gastronomy. According to Russian media reports, Prigozhin held the position of CEO of the media company Patriot until May, after which he became his deputy.
