It was raining when the Villach mountain rescuers left at 1:17 a.m. on Monday evening to rescue an unconscious person. The 70-year-old was in a medical emergency while hunting the Gerlitzen and lay unconscious on the ground.
The man was lying at the Treffner Bach near the Mösslkehre. Because he had not come home as agreed, his family had searched and raised the alarm.

The hunter’s son-in-law recently launched the Where is? installed on his mobile phone. Only in this way could the current whereabouts of the injured person be determined very quickly and faster care can be guaranteed. Son and son-in-law were able to provide first aid.
“The patient was on very impassable, wet, steep and muddy terrain,” reports the Villach mountain rescue service. For this reason, a rope rail was placed to secure the crew in the area where there was a risk of falling.
Difficult rescue mission
The man was protected from the rain by an emergency bivouac tent and the rescue team, including the mountain rescue doctor, was able to initiate the first measures. The unconscious man was transported to the rescue vehicle in the mountains, handed over to the rescue service and taken to the Klagenfurt clinic with suspected cerebral haemorrhage. The helicopter could not fly because of the weather.
Nine mountain rescuers, the Red Cross and the Afritz police were deployed. At 03:38 the night operation was over.
