For a long time, the operators of a husky breed in the Lower Austrian district of Gmünd have been repeatedly targeted by animal rights activists and authorities. In mid-June, a court sentenced her to prison after starving a pregnant dog. Now the long-awaited ban on keeping animals has been pronounced and the remaining dogs have been confiscated.
At the court hearing a few weeks ago, the breeding license was revoked, but several animals had to continue breeding horror. On Tuesday morning there was finally a large-scale police action on the property of the operator’s family. The facility has little to do with a kennel; eyewitnesses report that the lake resembles a derelict construction site.
Taken away by the police
The dedicated official vet intervened and confiscated 11 huskies, a chihuahua and a pomeranian. The dogs are said to be in a dirty state and some of them are suffering from huge health problems. The urgently needed ban on keeping animals was also officially announced.
Placed in animal shelters
“The animal corner ‘Krone’ immediately agreed to take over and care for three huskies. The remaining animals are distributed among animal shelters in Lower Austria and Burgenland and must be thoroughly medically examined. I’m glad the dogs are finally gone and hopefully once healthy they can be given to loving families,” said Tierecke manager Maggie Entenfellner.

The breeder Mrs. S. calmly accepted the official act at the request of “Krone” herself, but reserves the right to object. “We accepted the June court ruling, but I don’t understand why all the animals – even the old Chihuahua and the Pomeranian – have now been removed. There were regular checks, which were not complained about. In my opinion, the animals are in good condition”.
In an interview with “Tierecke”, Mrs. S. ruled out further breeding activity for health reasons, and her son and partner also no longer want to continue if the ban on keeping animals is lifted.
