Riots in France – man (27) probably killed by rubber bullet

Date:

In Marseille, a 27-year-old man died on Sunday during the nightly unrest, which has since subsided. The reason for this is, as the Public Prosecution Service announced on Wednesday, probably a hit by a police rubber bullet.

According to initial findings, the impact of the projectile in the chest area led to cardiac arrest. At the time, the area was rocked by “riots and looting,” prosecutors said. However, it is unclear whether the 27-year-old participated. The public prosecutor’s office has launched an investigation into the circumstances.

Riots in Paris and Marseille particularly violent
After a police officer shot and killed a youngster (17) during a traffic check in a Parisian suburb, violent protests erupted for nights in the Paris area and in numerous other cities in France. Except in Paris, the riots in Marseille were particularly violent. After violent riots on Friday night, the police operation in France’s second largest city was massively expanded on Saturday night.

call for donations detained for family by police
Meanwhile, the controversial fundraiser for the family of the police officer who shot dead the 17-year-old was halted around midnight on Tuesday. The call for donations was stopped, explains initiator and TV commentator Jean Messiha. Messiha is the former spokesperson for far-right politician Eric Zemmour and is known for his radical views.

The fundraising campaign for the police officer on the GoFundMe platform raised 1.5 million euros on Tuesday evening. The money is dedicated to Florian M.’s family, “who have done their job and are now paying a high price for it,” according to the call for donations.Police officer M. is currently detained on suspicion of intentional manslaughter.
