She is the face of the devastating vote-counting failure in the SPÖ. Now the resigned head of the election commission is also facing an anonymous complaint and the accusation of deliberate manipulation. Conny Bischofberger met Michaela Grubesa (34) in Ausseerland for an interview.
In any case, the landscape is invigorating and breathtaking: proud mountains, houses decorated with flowers, inky blue lake. “It’s a dream,” says Michaela Grubesa, as we stroll through picturesque Altaussee, “I often jog there by the water.” During our interview in the beach cafe, she then talks about a never-ending nightmare. The SPÖ deputy and councilor from Bad Aussee wears sneakers, jeans and a light blue linen shirt. Sometimes the tattoo flashes from the sleeve on her right forearm. It depicts “Justitia”, the Roman goddess of justice.
“crown”: Ms. Grubesa, since the extraordinary SPÖ party conference in Linz, your name has often been mentioned in the same breath as “Super-GAU”. Is this your personal worst case scenario?
Michaela Grubesa: For me personally, it was a human error that I deeply regret, regret and look back on to this day. It was embarrassing for the party, we don’t need to talk about that at all. But in the end it was just a mistake by our team under my leadership. I am especially sorry for Andi and Hans Peter.
Sorry, but the mistake wouldn’t have even happened to a second-grade elementary school student.
