More than 30 degrees on the weekend, 35 degrees on Monday – you can only tolerate that during the holidays when the water is up to your neck. So on to the pool – but if you have a family, you also have to dig deep into your pockets.
It is not surprising that Vienna’s outdoor swimming pools are very busy. Only those who leave hunger and thirst at home in the warm apartment get away with it relatively cheaply. You can also go swimming quickly one day financially.
One of many examples – here from the Gänsehäufel: mother, father, two children. Makes 18.80 euros entry. Of course, no one has to eat at the outdoor pool, but not all parents manage to ban ice cream for their little ones. Two scoops for both children and two coffees for mom and dad cost another 16 euros.
If you then want to enjoy solid and liquid food, you really pay extra. Sample menu for parents and the youngest: drinks (beer, mineral water, apple juice, cola) and a few snacks, nothing special: sausages with fries, children’s schnitzel and Frankfurter with sandwiches. A look at the menu shows that only a bratwurst with fries costs 8.50 euros. Lunch alone costs 46.10 euros. Without tip.
As I said: of course no one needs to consume in an outdoor swimming pool. But if you do, you will soon lose more than 80 euros. For a single day in a summer that doesn’t get any cooler.
For this price it is sometimes even to Greece. A flight to Zakynthos was seen with Ryanair. But: one-way ticket without family and without return flight.
Vienna and its most beautiful free swimming spots
But it doesn’t always have to be the overcrowded public outdoor pool – there are plenty of free baths in Vienna too. Whether it’s a sandy beach, sunbathing area or bathing jetty, we’ll show you the most beautiful spots.
