Warm meeting – King Charles received US President Biden for tea

Date:

During his layover in Britain, US President Joe Biden also met King Charles III. Met.

The 80-year-old was received with military honors at Windsor Castle near London on Monday afternoon. Biden and the British monarch greeted each other with a handshake in front of a historical backdrop and seemed to be having a good time.

The two climbed onto a small platform and from there heard, among other things, how the American national anthem was played. After the one-minute spectacle, they retired for tea. The two wanted to talk about climate protection, among other things.

Development of clean energies
The meeting with the king should include mobilizing funds for the expansion of clean energy in developing countries. Climate action is an issue that Charles has long advocated for and won over an influential comrade in Biden for.

US President Biden had previously met with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in London. Biden has mainly come to Europe to attend the NATO summit in Lithuania on Tuesday and Wednesday.

“Special Relationship”
Britain likes to emphasize that it is the closest partner of the US. The extent to which the so-called “special relationship” (special relationship) is based on reciprocity is considered controversial.

Despite several meetings with Sunak, Biden had recently caused resentment in Britain, for example because he had not come to the coronation of the 74-year-old monarch. His extended visit to Ireland, during which he celebrated his Irish roots, was also met with dismay in London.
