Reanimated on the train – Senior owes his life to a 19-year-old helper

Date:

Within minutes, a leisurely train ride in Upper Austria on Monday morning turned into a life-and-death struggle. A senior collapsed in the car, 19-year-old Jasmin Grubmüller reacted just right and became the lifesaver for the man. The “Krone” describes the dramatic moments.

“The man got into Mattighofen with me and then sat diagonally opposite me,” says 19-year-old Jasmin Grubmüller. The trained paramedic was on her way to her boyfriend in Braunau. At first everything seemed normal, but then she noticed the danger: “Two minutes after the departure, the conductor came to check the tickets. At first I thought that the older man had fallen asleep. But then I noticed that he was panting” , Grubmüller describes the dramatic moments.

Suddenly the pulse was gone
The high school graduate immediately stood up and offered her help. At that point, the 81-year-old became unresponsive. The conductor made the emergency call, the young helper took care of the senior. “We put the man on the ground. At first I felt a very light pulse in my neck, but that was gone. Then I started CPR,” says the heroine.

Together with another young girl – she was on her way to her very first theory lesson in paramedical training – they brought the man back to life. The two girls took turns doing CPR for about ten minutes.

Take the rescue helicopter to the hospital
Rescuers and an emergency doctor then joined the two rescuers at Mauerkirchen station and were able to stabilize the man. He was carried on a stretcher to the rescue helicopter and flown to hospital. “It was very challenging to get up and help. It was also my first CPR. But I did everything right,” says the proud rescuer. Without their efforts, the man would not have survived.
