To find more soldiers for the invasion war in Ukraine, the Moscow city government is apparently breaking new ground: it is pressuring construction companies to provide “volunteers” for the deployment. If companies refuse, they risk losing orders.
According to the British secret service, companies are given quotas for supplying soldiers. For example, a company had set the goal of having 30 volunteers at the end of August, the ministry writes on Twitter.
Wealthy Muscovites are not bothered by it
Ethnic minorities from poorer regions of Russia such as Dagestan and Central Asian states, which make up the bulk of Moscow’s construction workers, may be particularly affected. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin “most likely” supports the measure at least for tactical reasons, the British suspect. In doing so, he continues to minimize the impact of the conflict on wealthier Muscovites while giving the impression of supporting the war effort.
The British Ministry of Defense has published daily information on the course of the war since the beginning of the Russian offensive war against Ukraine, citing intelligence information. Moscow accuses London of a disinformation campaign.
